Kym Barrett Kym Barrett has lived and worked in Chatsworth, SE Queensland for over 45 years. She graduated in Fine Arts (painting and drawing) from the Brisbane College of Art (now QCA) in 1975 and has held twenty-two solo exhibitions. Kym was the 2022 Bundaberg Art Prize winner, the 2021 Flying Arts Queensland Regional Arts Award winner and has won many other Queensland Art Awards. She has been a finalist in twenty Queensland prizes and a finalist in five national awards since 2015. Her work is in the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery Landscape Collection, Greenslopes Private Hospital, Sunshine Coast Regional Council Art Collection and Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Collection as well as in numerous private collections. Kym currently creates abstract paintings that are process driven and which, whilst exhibiting rich luminosity and depth are intentionally open-ended, describing something out of reach but also the artist’s journey to a deeper ground. | Michael Brennan
Before taking up the position of Gallery Director at Noosa Regional Gallery, Michael held roles at LUMA | La Trobe University Museum of Art, Bayside Art Gallery, and Footscray Community Arts Centre. He also co-founded artist-run spaces, Trocadero Art Space and Shifted. Michael holds a Master of Fine Art in Painting from Monash University and a Master of Curatorship from the University of Melbourne. | Lena Jensen Lena is a studio potter, working out of her home studio at Reesville. After a short early career in custom dressmaking and design, Lena retrained and devoted 17 years to primary school teaching. During this time, she explored creative expression through painting and printmaking. Later again, she discovered an affinity with clay while studying visual arts at TAFE. After moving to Maleny in 1996, Lena was introduced to wheel throwing, and this remains a passion. She strives to create items which have both aesthetic and functional value, specialising in textured surfaces and altered thrown forms. Lena is actively involved in the local arts and crafts community, having held various roles at Maleny Arts and Crafts Group, being a regular stall holder at Maleny Handmade and Artisans Market, and in 2025 participating in Arts Connect Open Studio. Preparing for Open Studio led to sculptural collaborations with a local fine woodworker. Combining the natural beauty of wood and clay remains an area of ongoing exploration and inspiration. |
